Groom and His Buddies

Couple of days ago, a new client came in. He is getting married before Christmas. I offered him a haircut. I told him to have a facial as well and he did and also ended up getting a massage.  He had a wonderful pampering day for himself. He's coming back few days before his wedding to have a manicure and pedicure and is sending his best man and some of his buddies to have a day of relaxation and pampering. This is what we do here at Studio 355 Hair and Day Spa. We don't only cater to the bride and her entourage but also to the groom and his buddies.

Snowy Day

It is snowing here in Rockville, and it looks so beautiful outside but I am expecting some cancellations.  So far only one client did, but rescheduled.  My clients appreciate very much our "indoor parking".  Business as usual here at Studio 355 Hair and Day Spa.  This weather can't stop us.

Heart of Maryland Sweet Adelines Show

In early October, I performed in the Heart of Maryland Sweet Adelines Annual Show. Before the show, Victor added hair extensions to add fullness and to give me a signature performance look. On my right side, he added hair extensions the same color as my own. On my left side, he added six blonde pieces. As I sang with my quartet Popchord at the front of the stage, my blonde highlights waved through the air.

After the show, one of the patrons walked up to me and said, "Great show, and I just want you to know that you have the best hair out of anyone on the stage. Who does your hair?"

What women doesn't want to hear that? I am glad that Victor does my  hair. He is the "hair extension master of the east coast."

Best Salon in Maryland

Studio 355 Hair & Day Spa, my new home, is the best salon in Maryland. OK. I may be a little biased, but comparatively, it is. From the indoor parking (who wants to get their hair wet?), to the beautiful decor, shampoo massage chairs, teak wood counters, to the team of stylists we have to serve our clients. The marble floors and the high ceilings add to the ambiance. It's a great place to work, and it's an awesome experience for clients.

Want Highlights or Lowlights? Try Hair Extensions

One of my clients, at age 39, had never chemically treated her hair. She didn't favor chemical treatments, and did everything she could to stay away from it, yet wanted to explore how she would look with highlights.

Her younger sister, a light blonde, had worn highlights and lowlights throughout her college years and beyond. She never went without highlights.

My client often wondered what she would look like with highlights, but wasn't willing to take the plunge.

I suggested blonde hair extensions, and she agreed. We used the hair extensions to brighten up her dark brown hair and transformed the way she looked. This non-chemical way to add highlights suited this client very well and was the perfect way to enhance her beauty.

It's an important way to look at it.

For Brides: Man, Dress, Ring, Hair...

The four most important things to consider when you are preparing for your wedding.

1) Getting the right man: life is easier all around when you marry the right man. Follow your gut. Know that "best dating behavior" doesn't stay around forever. If there's anything that bugs you now, it's a bigger bug once you are married.

2) Getting the right dress: for some that means, going green...wearing your mom or grandmother's dress or getting a dress from a high-end thrift shop. Dresses shouldn't cost as much as the down payment for a house. That's too extravagent in today's economy. Think twice about your dress. Cancun, Bermuda, or Costa Rica (see www.meadbrown.com for the best vacation rentals) has a longer memory shelf-life than that dress that you will box or resell.

3) Getting the right ring: this is a hard one. Sometimes the right ring is what your pocketbook can afford. Too much, too little, too late if you go overboard on this one too. Solid gold, silver, or platinum bands are still popular. Get the 4 carat rock after you get your house. I am not sure that the two-weeks salary hype is the right set of guidelines for ring purchases. It's just a symbol.

4) Getting the right hair style: This is the most important thing you can do for your wedding day. The wrong hair style can dampen your mood and make others wonder "what were you thinking?" The right style can truly make you the "it" girl for the day. If you favor bold and daring, go for it. If your style is subtle with flowers, place them in to stay. A unique, one-of-a-kind hair style is what you deserve for your special day. Some brides opt for hair extensions to create more fullness, to add texture and highlights, and to create a style that they've never worn before, but only dreamed about.

Whether it's a fairytale wedding, one by the lake under a 150-year old tree with moss hanging down, or on top of a horse at a dude ranch, if you've gotten the right man, the right dress, the right ring and the right hair style, it'll be a wonderful day and a wonderful future for you.
